Wu Style Tai Chi

0

Tai Chi is an ancient martial art, though it is a very loose translation of the term. When people typically think of martial arts, they think of Karate or Taekwondo, or any other form of fighting that involves strikes using the hands and feet. However, if anyone has ever watched anyone practicing Tai Chi, they know it’s a very slow form of martial arts. That’s why it’s practiced by many aged, due to the fact there aren’t many fast strikes.

Young and old alike can enjoy Tai Chi, though, as it’s a great way to combine your mind, body and spirit into one cohesive unit and it’s also a great way to learn self defense as it teaches you how to use the ebb and flow of energy against an unknown attacker.

Tai Chi classes are held pretty much everywhere. It’s likely there’s a Tai Chi class in the town you live in. Don’t think it’s only for the old and aged, however, as many young people are also enrolled in Tai Chi classes. When you enroll in a class, you are being taught by an instructor who is well versed in the ways of Tai Chi.

This is the best way to learn, as opposed to learning from a video tape or book. When you learn from a teacher, you are able to ask questions, and you are also able to received feedback on your proper use of forms and technique, which is very important as far as Tai Chi is concerned.

Proper Form

Proper form is very important and this is one thing that will be stressed in all Tai Chi classes. When you use proper form, you are transferring energy properly. The slow movements of Tai Chi are very misleading. The strikes and blocks employed by Tai Chi practitioners look very weak, but they are not weak at all.

By using the force of energy properly, the strikes and blocks become very strong, even though they are very slow in practice. It’s just like the Yin Yang symbol, the white and the black, working against each other but together at the same time. That’s the best description of how Tai Chi classes teach the flow of energy and how to use it properly.

The Importance Of One On One Teaching

Tai Chi classes are the best way to learn this ancient art. When you learn one on one, you are able to ask questions about aspects you just can’t seem to comprehend. More importantly, you are being watched by someone who knows what they’re doing. If your stance is off, or your arm or leg isn’t positioned correctly, it can throw off your entire balance, and thus your energy flow will be off. This can then be corrected.

Now imagine if you were learning from a video tape or a book. You likely wouldn’t be able to tell that your stance was off, or that your arm or leg wasn’t positioned correctly, and you’d be learning the wrong way without even realizing it. That’s the best part about Tai Chi classes, that you can receive adequate feedback and proper instruction from someone who knows the fundamentals as well as the expert techniques of the ancient art form known as Tai Chi.
